Am 19. / 20. Juni 2026 richten wird das erste Bluesfestival unserer Szene aus: Downtown Blues Düsseldorf 2026.
Dafür haben wir Ash und Shehan als interinternationale Teachers gewinnen können, worüber wir sehr glücklich sind. Es wird ein schnuckeliges Wochenende mit zwei tollen Workshops, einem gemütlichen Mini-Social und einer Blues Party in privater Atmospähre mit Live Band.

On June 19th / 20th, 2026 we are hosting the first blues festival in our scene: Downtown Blues Düsseldorf 2026.
We are thrilled to welcome Ash and Shehan as our international teachers. It's going to be a wonderful weekend with two great workshops, a relaxed mini social, and a private Blues Party with a live band.

Ash entdeckte Blues-Tanz 2013 in London und war sofort von seiner ausdrucksstarken Tiefe, musikalischen Fülle und emotionalen Bandbreite fasziniert. Sie unterrichtet seit 2016, zunächst im Vereinigten Königreich und später in ganz Europa, und teilt ihre Arbeit international durch Festivals, Workshops und längere Lehraufenthalte – darunter das Good Time Blues Festival 2025, ein zweimonatiger Aufenthalt auf Réunion sowie Workshops in Brüssel, Maastricht und Düsseldorf. Für Ash ist Blues mehr als ein Tanz: Es ist ein kultureller Ausdruck, der durch die afroamerikanische Geschichte geprägt ist und Trauer und Freude, Widerstand und Genuss in sich trägt.
Ash discovered blues dance in 2013 in London and was immediately captivated by its expressive depth, musical richness, and emotional range. She has been teaching since 2016, initially in the United Kingdom and later across Europe, sharing her work internationally through festivals, workshops, and extended teaching residencies – including the Good Time Blues Festival 2025, a two-month stay on Réunion, and workshops in Brussels, Maastricht, and Düsseldorf. For Ash, blues is more than a dance: it is a cultural expression shaped by African American history, carrying within it grief and joy, resistance and pleasure
Shehan entdeckte Lindy Hop und Blues 2003 in Neuseeland und unterrichtet seitdem. Heute lebt er auf Réunion, ist Gründer von La Panthère Rose und Schöpfer von Swingin' Réunion, einem internationalen Swing-Tanzfestival. Sein Zugang zum Blues ist tief gefühlsbetont, rhythmusorientiert und menschenzentriert. Er ist bekannt für seine hohe Energie und ansteckende Freude sowie seine Fähigkeit, Tänzerinnen und Tänzern zu helfen, Potenzial in sich zu entdecken, das sie selbst noch nicht erkannt haben.
Shehan discovered Lindy Hop and blues in 2003 in New Zealand and has been teaching ever since. Today he lives on Réunion, where he is the founder of La Panthère Rose and the creator of Swingin' Réunion, an international swing dance festival. His approach to blues is deeply feeling-based, rhythm-oriented, and people-centred. He is known for his high energy and infectious joy, as well as his ability to help dancers discover potential within themselves that they had not yet recognised.
The Band: The Bluesploitation
Elmore Why kam vom Punk und Hobo Hillbilly über Sacred Harp Singing zurück zum Blues – und simuliert mit seiner tief gestimmten Gretsch Jim Dandy Akustikgitarre kurzerhand den Bass. Andi Reisner ist klassisch ausgebildeter Avantgarde-Gitarrist, Sound-Junkie, Tontechniker, Studio- und Filmmusiker und Betreiber des Pulsar studio in Brühl – seine Reise führte ihn immer tiefer in die Einfachheit und Intensität des Blues. Gero Sprafke spielt seit den Siebzigern Perkussion und Schlagzeug, studierte am Drummers Institute Düsseldorf und arbeitete jahrelang mit Jaki Liebezeit (CAN) sowie der Gruppe Drums Off Chaos zusammen.
Gemeinsam bringen sie die Menschen zum Tanzen: mal slow, mal rough, mal funky. Swinging and shuffling.

"Elmore Why comes from punk, hobo hillbilly, Sacred Harp singing, and back to the blues, which he already loved as a teenager. He names his namesake Elmore James, Hound Dog Taylor, and GA-20 as his role models.
Andi Reisner is a classical avant-garde guitarist who plays almost everything except Irish folk music. He is a sound junkie and also works as a sound engineer, studio and film musician, and operator of the Pulsar studio in Brühl. His role models include Marc Bolan, Jimi Hendrix, and Terje Rypdal. His ongoing journey has led him further and deeper into the simplicity and intensity of the blues.
Gero Sprafke began playing percussion instruments in the 1970s. Influenced by Stefan Krachten, drummer of the Unknown Cases, he quickly added his first drum beats. After taking lessons from various teachers, he studied at the Drummers Institute in Düsseldorf. This was followed by performances, tours, and recordings with numerous bands and musicians, as well as a long-standing collaboration with Jaki Liebezeit, drummer for CAN, and the group Drums Off Chaos."
